Jewish Teen Leadership Fellowship Houston, along with 7 other cities has been selected to participate in J-Serve Jewish Teen Leaders Fellowship – a program that incorporates J-Serve, (the Jewish component of America’s National Youth Day of Service) and the Jewish Teen Leadership Summit a gathering of youth leaders to address the challenge of engaging more teens in Jewish activities. Both of these programs are under the auspices of Panim, with the help of The Jewish Coalition for Service and The North American Alliance for Jewish Youth. We (Robin and Lewis) were chosen to represent Houston in this initiative by selecting 8 student leaders representing each of our youth programs as well as the unaffiliated population of Jewish Houston area youth. These 8 teens will participate in the JTLF Summit November 5-7 in Washington, DC where they will connect with the 56 teen leaders and 14 adult advisors from other participating cities. After the summit our teens will be eligible for $2,500 mini grants for local service projects in the Houston area in conjunction with the national J-Serve Initiative on April 22, 2007. Here is where we need your help - We want to select the best youth candidates for this program from each of our groups including but not limited to: BBYO, Young Judaea, B’nei Akiva, NFTY, USY, Emory Weiner High School, Beren Academy… We are looking for teens who will be in grades 10-12 next year and who have displayed a high degree of maturity and leadership/teamwork abilities. This is truly an opportunity for our youth to cross organizational and denominational divides this next year and focuses on two uniting forces –Judaism and service to our community. We look forward to connecting with each of you about this throughout the following week |
